Liu Qingge 100% Ate the Wrong Medicine (a LQG/SQQ Fanfiction Translation)

I translated a LQG/SQQ fic out of desperation. Eat your hearts out, you nerds.  The author didn’t name the piece, so I gave it a name for fun.

“Shidi-ah” Mu Qingfang’s gaze appeared normal, only people extremely familiar with him would be able to detect the slightest bit of uncertainty within it, “In some ways, this can’t be considered a negative side effect…”

“Shut up!”

Liu Qingge never had a good temper; and right now, his expression is exceptionally poor, eyes brimming with rage. It was terrifying to behold.

“…………”

Mu Qingfang refashioned the curse as good advice and shut his mouth. Taking a step back silently, he grabbed a medicine jar on the way out, banging and clanging about, looking anywhere but at the person standing in the hut.

“Hey!”

Feeling that the fuzzy feeling in his head receded a bit, Liu Qingge demanded again, “Hand over an antidote!”

Shidi-ah,”Mu Qingfang shook his head, not even sparing him a glance. His hammer still swinging down steadily against the medicinal herbs, he spoke in a heavy voice, “It’s not as if I poisoned you, how would I produce an antidote out of nowhere?”

“………….” Liu Qingge was speechless for a second, then said “Figure one out then.”

“It’s not as if I can formulate one anytime soon,” Mu Qingfang picked up a pill and examined it closely, “You only ate one pill anyway, if I had to estimate the medicine’s potency, you’ll be fine in a few hours, just bear with it.”

“It’s too noisy. Intolerable.”

Liu Qingge had a deep frown creasing his forehead, his expression indeed as if the feeling’s unbearable.

“Then tell me, exactly what do you feel?”

“Eat one yourself.” Although it seems like he was a man who only knew how to communicate with swords, but reality is that the Liu Qingge, who has a mind keener than anyone else’s, directly rebutted with an “answer” for him.

“Mhn,”Mu Qingfang thought, “Everyone has a different constitution, the effects might be different too. Even if I ate one, the reaction might not be the same as yours; it’d be better if you just described it.”

Unfortunately, in both medical experience and knowledge, Mu Qingfang outstrips the other eleven peak lords by a huge margin, and easily dodged his ploy.

“Shit, it’s so damn noisy.”

Liu Qingge couldn’t help raising his hand to try to block out the sounds, but his right hand held Cheng Luan and couldn’t be used to cover his other ear. Moreover, the noises originate from deep within his mind, trying to physically block it out is futile.

“Come to think of it, this is pretty odd,” Mu Qingfang finally couldn’t resist approaching. He took his pulse and assessed the flow through his meridians, he finally concluded, “Your qi flow is perfectly intact, your pulse is normal, your spiritual power abundant.  Medically speaking, this Heart Condensing Pill’s effects have been fully expressed, without any abnormalities.”

“Then how would you explain this noise?”

Liu Qingge certainly doesn’t feel like he’s fine; if there was the sound of countless people chattering in the tongues of birds and beasts, unable to be understood but also unable to be ignored, there’s no one who would claim they were fine.

“Hmm, this phenomenon resembles the ‘auditory hallucinations’ detailed in mortal medical books” Mu Qingfang shook his head, “but cultivators have a heart as tranquil as water, things like hallucinations would only manifest with an unstable heart’s demon. Shidi has already cultivated his jindan, this kind of thing shouldn’t be possible.

“It should…” Liu Qingge frowned, his expression grew serious, “It shouldn’t be auditory hallucinations.”

Mu Qingfang was curious, “why would you say that?”

Amidst their discussion, a leisurely voice drifted into the medicine hut.

“Is Mu-shidi present?”

“Eh?” Before Mu Qingfang had the chance to welcome him, the man already walked in. Seeing the two inside the room, with a face tinged with surprise he said, “Liu-shidi is here as well?”

Boss Liu’s complexion doesn’t look so good, you’re not in a bad mood are you?

My god, if they’re having a disagreement right now, who am I supposed to help?

Liu-shidi can’t win an argument against Mu-shidi, but it’s impossible for Mu-shidi  to beat Boss Liu in a fight.

If Boss Liu really decides to strike then there’s nothing we can do, I can’t block him either. Ah… but Boss Liu has always been someone easy to reason with, he shouldn’t attack him randomly… if he really does decide to start a fight… then Mu-shidi will just need to suffer this grievance.

Speaking of, what exactly are these two standing around in here for? Should I or shouldn’t I ask them?

I’m dying of curiosity! If I don’t ask, I’ll be curious for the rest of the day, but if I do ask I guarantee I’ll be penalized coolness points!

“You… so noisy.”

Liu Qingge turned towards Shen Qingqiu, though his expression was still stormy, his voice was a bit mellower than before. It’s just, as these words left his mouth, both Shen QingQiu and Mu Qingfang revealed a blank expression.

Shidi?

Shen Qingqiu forced his face into his usual elegant and unafflicted expression, asking: “I have disrupted shidi? I’ll be departing after retrieving something and won’t be disturbing shidi anymore.”

Wuah! Boss Liu actually got angry!

Though it could be said that Boss Liu is more reliable than even a blood related brother, but when he’s actually angry he’s really too terrifying.

I was going to ask him at first if he was free, but it’s probably better for me to just shut up.

Pity for my nosy heart, just why are they arguing?

Mu-shidi sure has some tricks up his sleeve to make Boss Liu lose his temper! He couldn’t have used Boss Liu to test out some new medicine? Ah, Dr. FrankenMu-shidi indeed.

“Right,” Liu Qingge massaged between his brows, “what does  Franken-whatever mean?”

“Wh-what?” Shen Qingqiu almost jumped out of his skin, but his surprise only lasted an instant on his face and gingerly asked, “Liu-shidi? Are you… alright?”

How did Boss Liu know of Dr. Frankenstein?

He nearly scared me into an early grave, I almost believed that he was able to hear what I was thinking…

Even if this is a transmigration novel, you can’t scare people like this!

System! System! Come out and explain!

Irresponsibly going offline when I actually need it; hibernating as soon as the novel’s complete, this sure is a convenient System!

Holy shit! Boss Liu is coming over here! Excepting that terrifying first meeting, I haven’t seen this expression since.

A handsome man is indeed a handsome man! No wonder he’s Boss Liu! Wait a second… I need to compose myself or I’m going to get exposed!

“Oh…” Liu Qingge seemed to comprehend something, “It’s nothing, wait a second.”

“No matter, shidi can do as you please.” Shen Qingqiu stared at him, as if he’s trying to confirm something, and asked, “Would you like me to retreat for a moment?”

Boss Liu seems to have a secret he can only tell Mu-shidi. This secret really is tickling my inquisitive heart but it’s too unseemly to ask… If it really comes down to it, I’ll just surreptitiously come back to ask Mu-shidi later.

In fact, I could’ve just left after grabbing the tea leaves, but now that it’s taken me this long to leave, the atmosphere’s gotten really awkward.

No wonder Mu-shidi looks so flustered; he has no clue what’s going on. We’ll see after Boss Liu’s gone. Besides, I still need a defensive medicine for when I descend the mountain.

“No,” Liu Qingge suddenly said, “Just wait.”

“Then shidi, as you will.”

Shen Qingqiu internally spat and made a whole pile of speculations, but he maintained a scholarly and elegant expression, garbed in a pure green robe, a folding fan in hand, and gentle tone, he was the very image of an immaculate gentleman.

The gap between the interior and exterior is too big.

Liu Qingge took a glance at him, silently grabbed Mu Qingfang’s arm and dragged him inside.

Shen Qingqiu waited outside for a long while. Just as he decided to make his way back, Liu Qingge walked out alone.

As usual, his steps fell swiftly, and he reached him in a couple strides. He reached into his sleeve and retrieved a shattered glass patterned glazed tea canister, stuffing it into Shen Qingqiu’s hands, saying: “Yours.”

“Eh?” Shen Qingqiu opened it and, as expected, found the tea he’d requested from Mu Qingfang. He smiled, “Many thanks shidi, this indeed was the matter I came to find Mu-shidi for.”

Boss Liu sure is Boss Liu, truly dependable.

Wait, how did he know I came to get tea?

Ah, Mu-shidi probably told him… then should I still go greet Mu-shidi?

“Mu-shidi is about to concoct some pills, don’t go in, he told me to give these to you.”

“Ah?” Shen Qingqiu was stunned for a moment, and answered, “Okay.”

Although he answered “okay”, his feet remained rooted in place. Instead, he shuffled over to clear the path for Liu Qingge, as if encouraging him to leave first.

He was still determined to ask.

Liu Qingge didn’t even need to listen to his thoughts this time to understand his intentions, but since this opportunity presented itself, he shouldn’t waste it.

“Is there something else?”

“Hm?” Shen Qingqiu gave him a glance and a smile, “I’ve seen Mu-shidi concoct before, I wished to inquire if he made any discoveries about the herbs I sent here a few days ago.”

Shen Qingqiu goes down the mountain fairly often, sometimes he meets disciples of demonic sects, it’s inevitable that he would acquire some rare items. Occasionally he would find something interesting or useful and would bring them back for Qian Cao Peak; as for the results, that’s up to personal opinion.

Without a single word, Liu Qingge stared at Shen Qingqiu.

Boss Liu’s expression is really terrible.

What exactly happened between them? Just a mention of Mu-shidi and he shows this kind of face…

Should I go in and ask? Maybe I should wait a few days? But I’m about to go on an excursion soon, I don’t know how long it’ll be before I’m back this time. If Mu-shidi forgets, that’d be terrible.

Ah, come to think of it, Yue-shixiong is in seclusion, Mu-shidi has the map for this time’s excursion. Either way, I still need to pay him a visit, I’ll just use getting the map as an excuse this time.

“You’re going down the mountain?”

Liu Qingge asking this so suddenly, Shen Qingqiu  secretly had some speculations. Only after a moment’s contemplation did he answer, “That is correct, how did shidi come to know of this?”

“Mu-shixiong asked me to go with you.”

Candidly, Liu Qingge lied, giving no concern to the possibility of Shen Qingqiu seeing through his falsehood, “the map’s with me.”

“Eh?” Shen Qingqiu was presently having some genuine doubts, but after thinking about it, “Well, I guess that’s fine, I’ll be troubling Liu-shidi this time.”

Really, when will Boss Liu call me shixiong? He called Mu-shidi so casually, and they were even just quarreling.

Forget it, whatever. Besides, having Boss Liu with me on the road guarantees the highest safety coefficient, this is still a windfall.

Thinking of what’s happened, Shen Qingqiu took a peek at Liu Qingge and found him watching him. He looked up and asked, “What?”

“Nothing,” Shen Qingqiu smiled back, “I still need to return to Qing Jing peak, I’ll inconvenience shidi to wait a little.”

“No problem,” face calm, Liu Qingge nodded.

Shen Qingqiu’s gaze swept across him again, eyes full of doubts. He waved his fan and said nothing more.

His mood seems very good. Is it because he won the argument? He thought to himself. Meanwhile the man beside him had already “heard” everything and tried to resist the smile that tugged at his lips, but ultimately a corner of his lip turned upwards.

As Shen Qingqiu suspected, everything he thinks can be “heard” clearly by Liu Qingge. Liu Qingge specifically went in with Mu Qingfang to discuss this phenomenon. Originally, this was just to study the effects of the Heart Condensing Pill being absorbed by the meridians, and already achieved the full effect, only with an unexpected side effect.

After taking the Heart Condensing Pill Liu Qingge heard the voices of every person and every thing. Though he can’t identify where or who the sounds are from, the innumerable overlapping sounds coalesced into an unbearable sea of white noise.

Liu Qingge came previously to address this matter with Mu Qingfang. After a lengthy period of research, Mu Qingfang still couldn’t make head nor tails of the issue. He could only conclude that the Heart Condensing Pill sharpened the five senses, and the Liu Qingge who always had an outstanding constitution expanded his senses until he was able to “hear” the voices of distant people.

But they didn’t expect that this conclusion they’ve reached to be refuted with Shen Qingqiu’s arrival. Liu Qingge suddenly heard Shen Qingqiu’s “heart” which reflected his “thoughts”; from that moment onwards, the original cacophony of noise receded, as if the ability has switched functionalities.

The cause for this change, don’t mention Liu Qingge, not even Mu Qingfang could think of a reason.

At last, the peak lord of Qian Cao peak, the most prominent medicine master of the Cang Qiong Sect thought of an excellent excuse to send off Liu Qingge: “In any case, if it’s just his voice alone, it’s not much of a hinderance. Why don’t you just follow him, and while you’re at it, you can observe any other changes in the Heart Condensing Pill.

This can’t really be called a good excuse, but it coincidentally was in line with Liu Qingge’s thoughts. But just in case, he decided that it was safer if Shen Qingqiu and Mu Qingfang didn’t meet.

On the other hand, after he discovered the change, Liu Qingge already found a new source of amusement. This ever elegant and proper shixiong privately having such a loquacious and snappy side, this feeling seeing him so incredibly incongruous is also quite amusing.

So when Shen Qingqiu said he seemed to be in a good mood, he wasn’t wrong.

Shidi, I’ve let you wait.”

When Shen Qingqiu left the bamboo house in Qing Jing peak, Liu Qingge stood straight and still, no different from when he last saw him. He didn’t purposefully delay either, so there shouldn’t be any issues; he straightened his clothes and said:

Shidi, the purpose of this trip is…”

“I know; let’s go” Liu Qingge interrupted him, Cheng Luan rose, and he bade Shen Qingqiu also step onto the sword

Eh? Boss Liu is giving me a lift? Not bad at all.

“But it’s not that urgent, taking the carriage is also alright. That child Ming Fan already prepared it.”

“You want to take a carriage?”

Liu Qingge heard his true thoughts and asked again.

Seeing his fingers still grasping Cheng Luan, and considering Liu Qingge’s apparent dislike of the carriage, Shen Qingqiu shook his head, maintaining his graceful air, “I’ll have to burden shidi.”

Liu Qingge who was of course, very pleased, grabbed his hand and pulled him onto Cheng Luan. With movements faster than Shen Qingqiu could see, Cheng Luan shot past the sect gates like a meteor.

Ah, no wonder it’s Boss Liu, the faster the better!

Flying like this is overwhelmingly handsome- in a world of cultivation, travel on a flying sword is still the best.

What kind of transportation is using a horse drawn carriage when compared to flying on a sword; it’s a pity Xiu Ya isn’t suitable for flying long distances.

“Flying on your sword is related to your cultivation and finesse,” Liu Qingge suddenly turned to face him and said, “you’re lacking in practice.”

Though every word he said was the truth, it still did hurt Shen Qingqiu’s enthusiasm. Thinking of the former animosity between himself and Liu Qingge, he had to admit that Boss Liu’s mouth was also a respectably lethal weapon.

In front of him, Liu Qingge abruptly became silent. Even though he couldn’t see his expression, Shen Qingqiu could feel Boss Liu’s attitude become stiff and distant. Though you’d be hard pressed to say that anything’s unusual, there’s always subtle differences in each moment.

This kind of atmosphere… sure enough, Boss Liu isn’t someone I can chat with…

Although he’s reliable.

Even if you ask a question, your chances of getting a response aren’t good. Who knows why he’s like this, maybe it’s some kind of andropause? Can cultivators even have andropause? Should I consult Mu-shidi about this?

…it feels like the atmosphere’s getting even worse…

Forget it, it’s better to not ask.

Shen Qingqiu silently criticized him nonstop while they traveled, yet he didn’t want to end up in the same mentality as Liu Qingge. The one standing in front was determined to not speak, and the one riding behind found it even more difficult to find a topic to chat about. Although Liu Qingge wanted to refute his worlds, if he said anything now, Shen Qingqiu would realize he’s able to hear his thoughts. Assessing the situation, it’s better to say nothing.

Like this, the two silently and peacefully reached their destination.

The task this time was pretty simple. At the foot of the Twin Peak mountains, there was a valley with a graben. It used to be just a normal place, but recently a miasma started seeping out of it, obscuring the path to cross the valley. When ordinary people tried to pass through the miasma, they would inevitably be afflicted with poison; left without an alternative, they could only beseech Cang Qiong Sect to help.

This incident can’t be called major, but it also couldn’t be called minor. Liu Qingge steered Cheng Luan to the valley directly outside of the reach of the miasma, letting Shen Qingqiu alight before investigating, carefully shielding himself. Because he knew what Shen Qingqiu was thinking, the entire process went exceedingly smoothly.

Perhaps it was as Mu Qingfang said, the Heart Condensing Pill magnified his five senses, and even the source of the miasma was found easily.

It was a pity that Shen Qingqiu didn’t know the cause of the miasma; when he ventured down to investigate, he fell victim to the hidden dangers of the valley. Trying to avoid inhaling the miasma, Shen Qingqiu kept his mouth tightly shut, shouting in his heart for Boss Liu but unable to make a single sound. Just as he was about to accept his fate, a violent gust of air blew past his ear in the form of Liu Qingge. His falling blade cut apart the miasma filling the valley and slew the demonic creature in one stroke.

“Many thanks to Liu-shidi.” Shen Qingqiu thanked him solemnly. He examined the now broken enchantment, all while lamenting that Liu Qingge was going to get mad at him for  being useless again.

“No problem.”

Liu Qingge peered at him for a while, before saying: “You’re… pretty alright.”

Did Boss Liu end up taking the wrong medicine?

My god, what does that even mean?

Is he saying that when I screw up, it’s still alright?

Has he decided that this is just my standard?

He can even tolerate this kind of setting? He really deserves to be called Boss Liu.

Ah! Hold on, when did this kind of strange setup pop up? Isn’t it better to properly get angry in this situation?

After all this, I can’t even tell if he’s angry or not. How am I supposed to answer????

The System not working right now is making such a mess of things.

What do I say??

Are you sure Boss Liu didn’t take some sketchy medicine from Mu-shidi? His expression’s peculiar.

“Shut up!” Liu Qingge really couldn’t resist yelling at last. This other side of his shixiong is astounding, almost to the point of incomprehensibility; all this inner “heartfelt dialogue” is flowing out almost at the pace of a couple of people hotly debating over the best cultivation methods. Liu Qingge had to carefully contemplate the side effects of this Heart Condensing Pill, was it a blessing or a curse?

Shi…shidi?”

Silently, the two men assessed each other. Liu Qingge watched him clean up the wreckage. Only when Shen Qingqiu looked up and met his eyes, waiting for him to say something, did he squeeze out, “Let’s go.”

On the way back, one person was focused on steering Cheng Luan, the other person was the one standing on the rear, internally blithering nonstop but maintained a cold and steady outward appearance: Shen Qingqiu. Liu Qingge has been listening to his internal monologue for this long, when they arrived at Qing Jing peak, the quiet felt foreign.

The effects of the pill wore off.

Shen Qingqiu was still the man who spoke elegantly, walked leisurely, fluttered a fan, and kept a refined appearance; but Liu Qingge couldn’t hear the words of his other self.

Inexplicable emotions flowed into Liu Qingge’s heart; he couldn’t tell if it was relief or loss, and neither did he feel the need to define it either way.

As usual, after bidding Shen Qingqiu farewell, he turned and left.

Extra:

“Give me the Heart Condensing pills.”

“Liu-shidi, why do you want them? Didn’t you say it was irritating?”

“Useful.”

“There’s no more, you complained it was noisy so I gave the rest of them to my disciples to test the pill’s effects. I’ve used them up.”

“Make more.”

“…………….”

“Right now!”

“………..Shen-shixiong has already left…..”

“…………………….”

There’s mention of a specific type of container for his tea. Here’s a picture!

Also in case anyone’s too confused, to eat the wrong medicine means that something seems off with them. I didn’t want to put any TL notes since this was just for fun, but since I’ve decided to put it in my self made title… hmm

Shoutout to busyoldfool from our SV discord for showing me this! I need LQG/SQQ content because ALL WE DO IS CUCK LQG.

I didn’t end up editing this at all because I lost about 800 words of it due to a stupid saving error and I don’t have the heart to keep struggling with this anymore. I took a lot of liberties with the translation since I thought it was more important to maintain tone since a lot of the charm is SQQ’s internal screaming.

For reals though, I took a lot of heavy handed liberties. You can also see my personal writing style break down as it neared the end lol (since I was getting tired).

I did send a message to inquire if it’s alright to translate this, but haven’t yet received a reply. This is just to indulge myself and the Scum Villain server with some wholesome Liu Qingge content.
